We have a strong commitment to providing a secure, streamlined platform for understanding application health, performance and behavior. Through feedback from our clients and analysis of our strategic direction as a company, we have decided that these features no longer fit within our product portfolio. Our goal of helping teams build and manage better software, faster and with less effort, is at the core of these decisions; at best, these remote access features don’t fit cleanly and clearly into that tight focus, and at worst, they can raise security concerns that we would like to eliminate altogether. We felt like they were more of a negative than a positive to most of our clients.
These changes help make way for a new, simplified Security and Access Control model that will be rolling out in a later release, which will in turn pave the way for powerful new features that we’re excited to share with you later in 2016. While we’re not quite ready to break cover with them, you will be the first to know when we’re able to share more. In the meantime, keep an eye out for an update from us soon regarding the promised Security and Access Control improvements.
Remote access features being deprecated March 14, 2016:
- File Browsing / Real Time File Tailing
- Stop / Start Service (including Web Apps)
- Event Viewer Queries
- Execution of ad-hoc SQL queries
- Termination of running processes
- Ad-hoc execution of scheduled tasks
However, we are retaining the following capabilities that are somewhat related to previous remote access features.
- SQL Query Monitoring: With the removal of ad-hoc SQL querying, the statement provided will need to be validated outside of Stackify. Your existing SQL Query Monitors will be unaffected.
- File Monitors: With the removal of the File Browsing function, file paths provided will need to be discovered and validated outside of Stackify. Your existing File Monitors will be unaffected.
- Event Viewer data may still be sent as part of Windows Logs: Using Stackify’s Errors & Logs functionality, you can collect, query, and even monitor Windows Event Log data. There is a separate charge for this currently, but we are going to make some pricing changes soon to include this feature.
- All other existing monitors will continue to function.
